Business Running Out of Cash? Here’s What to Do.

It seems odd that a profitable company can still go out of business because of debt but it’s true. And very often this happens when the business is in a period of growth. How does this happen? It happens because they didn’t keep an eye on the flow of cash into and out of the business.

On the face of it running a small business is a simple process. First you make sure that you charge more money for the product/service than it cost to make/deliver, then you make sure that you get paid for that product/service before you need to pay people who delivered products/services to you.
The best way to avoid a cashflow crisis is to keep a cashflow forecast. I’ve worked with many businesses that don’t and they have generally bee the ones that are struggling. Why? Because they don’t have control of what’s happening. How you keep the cashflow forecast isn’t too important as you will develop it over time, but just make sure you have the fundamentals down – where and when is money expected to flow into the business and where and when is it expected to flow out.
