7 Ways to Get Inspired

Suffering from writers block, or do you just feel uninspired and down in the dumps? If so, the try any or all of the following off beat ways to kick yourself into gear and brighten up your day, and perhaps others too.

  1. Read about sailboats! Okay it doesn’t have to be sailboats but read about anything that you know nothing about.  It will shift your mind out of it’s current thought patterns into something totally different.
  2. Walk Backwards in Public. This will get you in a different space immediately and bring a smile to your face too.  When you see things from a different angle – literally – it is easy to shift into another gear.  You can also lie down in a public place for 10 seconds, stand on your head and check out the view upside down, start a new handshake, or just be totally goofy with a total stranger.
  3. Snap some photos…like everywhere.  If you are looking through a lens you are always looking for various compositions that are unique and different.  If can help you to see the world in a totally different way and make record of it too.  You will see so many different places through a totally different view.
  4. Go to the library or the bookstore.  These are places that hold the whole world in their doors.  Yes it is through the pages of books, but that doesn’t make the experience any less enjoyable cause you really can see almost everything here.
  5. Write a haiku.  Try a short love poem or two and then read them to someone you love…and with style.  If love poetry is over your head try an encouragement poem or some other inspirational writing.
  6. Call an old friend, someone you haven’t spoken too in a long, long time.  Find out what they are up to, what they have created in their life and see what you can learn from them through your conversation.
  7. Put on some new music.  Try different and random songs that will either excite you or make you wince.  Either way they will shake things up, especially if you decide to break it down!
